The trip is coming to an end, with only the last stop – Casablanca. Two days’ diary is written together, to end this journey with a little bit of uniqueness.
From Rabat to Casablanca by train, 90 kilometers, one hour journey, very convenient and cheap, about HK$60.
I have an inexplicable affection for Casablanca, its name alone is romantic enough. Like most people of my age, my knowledge of it began with the movie “Casablanca” and that evergreen song (A kiss is a kiss in Casablanca. But a kiss is not a kiss without your sigh……)
But actually, its cityscape is relatively ordinary and not as special as the previous cities.
I think the essence of this city is by the sea, where there is the world-famous Hassan II Mosque, rocky beaches and sandy beaches that are popular with the public, as well as beautiful hotels and restaurants.
One-third of the area of the Hassan II Mosque is built on the sea to commemorate the ancestors of the Arabs in Morocco who came from the sea. Its minaret is up to 210 meters high, making it the tallest minaret in the world and visible from afar. The entire mosque can accommodate tens of thousands of people to pray at the same time. It is the third-largest mosque in the world, after the mosques in Mecca and Medina in Saudi Arabia, and is hailed as a masterpiece of 20th-century architecture. For various reasons, I did not join the guided tour to go inside, but we used its square as a photography studio and had fun.
In the evening, we spent time on the sandy beach, saying goodbye to this city and this country.
